On the weekend of 6th and 7th June our Archers travelled to Wetherby to take part in the Yorkshire Archery Association Annual County Championships and Open Meeting 2015. Due to high winds and safety concerns the Saturday, World Archery Fita rounds had to be cancelled after only three ends, leaving the Archers to pack away and hope for better conditions on the Sunday. Happily, Sunday did improve, it actually started on a high for the Archers of East Riding with our very own Trevor Astley being presented with the Yorkshire Sword in recognition of his organisation of the Long Bow Tournament on behalf of the Yorkshire Committee, a thankless task which Trevor has carried out successfully for the last few years and has already volunteered his services for 2015. After Trevor’s presentation and the morning briefing the shooting began. Although the conditions were still challenging with a stiff changeable wind, shooting did commence. The juniors were shooting Bristol rounds dependent on age with distances from 40 to 60 yards and the seniors shooting a York round comprising of 100, 80 and 60 yards.
