Christmas Fun Shoot and Badges

posted 18 Dec 2011 14:18 by Gary North

15 members turned out on a cold winter's night to shoot at Driffield School to take part in our Christmas Fun Shoot.  Each archer was assigned a number, with the object of the game being to shoot other players numbers the last player with spots not hit is the winner. Steve Shipley was the first archer to be eliminated - what a surprise that was.
Paul Jones won the prize for the adults and Elisha Adams won the first prize for the juniors.
Next there was a head to head competition where Trevor Ashley, shooting a recurve bow, came up against Paul Jones.  Even with all Trevor's antics he could not put Paul off.  Trevor lost out to Paul and the final was Paul Jones against Steve Shipley.  Paul won with a 3 - 1 ratio. Prizes where awarded by Carole - sweets for the juniors and wine for the adults.

Archery GB

posted 24 Nov 2011 11:20 by Gary North   [ updated 24 Nov 2011 14:06 ]

Celebrations have been taking place at the Archers Of East Riding this week. Two Junior archers Michael Smith and Blain Nicholson have been selected to shoot at the performance unit at Lilleshall National Sport Centre in Shropshire, the home of the Archery G.B. Team.

The two Juniors have been training with the Yorkshire Archery squad for the past 3 years, where they have travelled the length and breadth of the country competing at national competitions.

The juniors have continually impressed their county coaches by winning many championships. As a result the coaches put their names forward to the Archery GB training team.

They will travel to Lilleshall once a month for two days of training working on their technique and fitness working with Lloyd Brown the head coach for Archery G.B.

In the new year they will be training at the new academy which is to be based at Warrington College in a purpose-built Sports Facility used by other Olympic Disciplines.

The academy is a new concept working with coaching for 14-19 years olds to feed into the Olympic development programme.

The aim for both Michael and Blain is to take part in the 2016 Olympic Games to be held in Rio-Brazil.

Good luck from all members of Archers of East Riding.
